Not even including subscriptions. Warner Bros has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy has now sold more than 40 million units since its release in 2023. The last reported sales update came in March 2025, when the game had surpassed 34 million copies sold. This means Hogwarts Legacy has shifted another six million units since then. JP Morgan’s AI adoption hit 50% of employees. The secret? A connectivity-first architecture

JP Morgan’s AI adoption hit 50% of employees. The secret? A connectivity-first architecture

When Derek Waldron and his technical team at JPMorgan Chase first launched an LLM suite with personal assistants two-and-a-half years ago, they weren’t sure what to expect. That wasn’t long after the game-changing emergence of ChatGPT, but in enterprise, skepticism was still high. Surprisingly, employees opted into the internal platform organically — and quickly. Within months, usage jumped from zero to 250,000 employees. Now, more than 60% of employees across sales, finance, technology, operations, and other departments use the continually evolving, continually connected suite.“We were surprised by just how viral it was,” Waldron, JPMorgan’s chief analytics officer, explains in a new VB Beyond the Pilot podcast. Employees weren’t just designing prompts, they were building and customizing assistants with specific personas, instructions, and roles and were sharing their learnings on internal platforms. The financial giant has pulled off what most enterprises still struggle to achieve: large-scale, voluntary employee adoption of AI. It wasn’t the result of mandates; rather, early adopters shared tangible use cases, and workers began feeding off each other’s enthusiasm. This bottom-up usage has ultimately resulted in an innovation flywheel. “It’s this deep rooted innovative population,” Waldron says. “If we can continue to equip them with really easy to use, powerful capabilities, they can turbocharge the next evolution of this journey.” Ubiquitous connectivity plugged into highly sophisticated systems of recordJPMorgan has taken a rare, forward-looking approach to its technical architecture. The company treats AI as a core infrastructure rather than a novelty, operating from the early contrarian stance that the models themselves would become a commodity. Instead, they identified the connectivity around the system as the real challenge and defensible moat. The financial giant invested early in multimodal retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), now in its fourth generation and incorporating multi-modality. Its AI suite is hosted at the center of an enterprise-wide platform equipped with connectors and tools that support analysis and preparation. Employees can plug into an expanding ecosystem of critical business data and interact with “very sophisticated” documents, knowledge and structured data stores, as well as CRM, HR, trading, finance and risk systems. Waldron says his team continues to add more connections by the month. “We built the platform around this type of ubiquitous connectivity,” he explains. Ultimately, AI is a great general-purpose technology that will only grow more powerful, but if people don’t have meaningful access and critical use cases, “you're squandering the opportunity.” As Waldron puts it, AI’s capabilities continue to grow impressively — but they simply remain shiny objects for show if they can’t prove real-world use. “Even if super intelligence were to show up tomorrow, there's no value that can be optimally extracted if that superintelligence can't connect into the systems, the data, the tools, the knowledge, the processes that exist within the enterprise,” he contends. Listen to the full episode to hear about: Waldron’s personal strategy of pausing before asking a human colleague and instead assessing how his AI assistant could answer that question and solve the problem. A "one platform, many jobs" approach: No two roles are the same way, so strategy should center on reusable building blocks (RAG, document intelligence, structured data querying) that employees can assemble into role-specific tools. Why RAG maturity matters: JPMorgan evolved through multiple generations of retrieval — from basic vector search to hierarchical, authoritative, multimodal knowledge pipelines.Subscribe to Beyond the Pilot on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Warner Bros Discovery's board spurned Paramount Skydance's $108.4 billion hostile takeover bid on Wednesday, calling the offer "illusory" as it accused the studio giant of misleading shareholders about its financing. From a report: Paramount has been in a race with Netflix to win control of Warner Bros, and with it, its prized film and television studios, HBO Max streaming service and franchises like "Harry Potter." After Warner Bros accepted the streaming giant's offer, Paramount launched a hostile offer to outdo that bid. In a letter to shareholders on Wednesday, the Warner Bros board wrote that Paramount had "consistently misled" Warner Bros shareholders that its $30-per-share cash offer was fully guaranteed, or "backstopped," by the Ellison family, led by billionaire and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison. DOGE leader at Treasury spent a million dollars on ChatGPT

DOGE leader at Treasury spent a million dollars on ChatGPT

AI has now arrived at the Treasury Department. Sam Corcos, a former startup leader and Department of Government Efficiency affiliate now serving as chief information officer at the Treasury Department, appears to have approved spending at least $1.5 million on up to 3,000 licenses for ChatGPT, the OpenAI platform, federal spending records show. The agency has obligations to spend $1.5 million on the services, and has already outlaid more than $500,000 for the technology, those records show. Fast Company obtained a user agreement showing that Treasury is allowing employees to use ChatGPT for "authorized" mission purposes. Such purposes include using the technology, in certain circumstances, with what's known as "controlled unclassified information," a government designation that's given to information that isn't classified, but still requires some safeguarding. The expanded use of the tool comes amid growing pressure on federal agencies to adopt artificial intelligence systems, which advocates say can increase efficiency and cut down on excess bureaucracy. In this case, the rules laid out in the user agreement include strong limits on how AI systems might be used—particularly, for example, with regards to personally identifiable information, market-sensitive economic information, and federal tax data. The rules also forbid Treasury staffers from trying to tamper with or evade an AI chatbot's security measures without express authorization. Employees aren't supposed to use the output of an AI system without a human reviewing that work, or obfuscate the role AI played in making a particular product, according to the user agreement. A violation of these rules could lead to someone being fired, the agreement states. One former Treasury official said department staff are probably using the tech on heavy lifting for tasks that would normally take a long time. Tony Arcadi, the official that Sam Corcos replaced, tells Fast Company that there were myriad use cases that could benefit from the technology, including automating administrative work. "Done correctly and with robust controls, LLMs could be a force multiplier for intelligence, operations, finance, enforcement, and public engagement," he says. The agency had previously invested in a smaller cache of ChatGPT licenses. The Treasury Department and OpenAI did not respond to a request for comment. Still, in September, the agency released a compliance plan focused on promoting the use of AI, as well as a strategy spelling out its approach to the technology. Amid the move to speed up the use of AI throughout the government, including the military's new GenAI.mil tool, there's still the serious risk of government officials putting too much faith in the far from faultless technology. For example, it seems like a recent report from the Department of Health and Human services may have been created using artificial intelligence—and included fake citations. Federal clerks have used ChatGPT and Perplexity and have ended up including misquotes and other errors in documents.

Fallout’s goofy apocalypse gets serious in season 2

The most impressive thing about Fallout's first season was how well it nailed the tone. The games are a mix of grim and goofy, a postapocalyptic story in a bleak world that's also full of crude jokes and ridiculous characters. It's a tough balance to get right - too serious and it's a miserable place […]

Global Semiconductor Equipment Sales Projected to Reach a Record of $156 Billion in 2027, SEMI Reports

Global Semiconductor Equipment Sales Projected to Reach a Record of $156 Billion in 2027, SEMI Reports

Growth Supported by Leading-edge Logic, Memory and Advanced Packaging Applications from 2025 through 2027 TOKYO, Dec. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Global sales of total semiconductor manufacturing equipment by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are forecast to reach a record high of $133 billion in 2025, growing 13.7% year-on-year, SEMI announced today in its Year-End Total Semiconductor Equipment Forecast – OEM Perspective at SEMICON Japan 2025. Growth in semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales is expected to continue in the two following years of the forecast period, with projections of $145 billion in 2026 and $156 billion in 2027. This growth will be driven primarily by investments related to AI, particularly in leading-edge logic, memory, and the adoption of advanced packaging technologies. Total Semiconductor Equipment Market by Segment "Global semiconductor equipment sales show robust momentum, with both the front-end and back-end segments projected to see three consecutive years of growth, culminating in total sales surpassing $150 billion for the first time in 2027," said Ajit Manocha, SEMI president and CEO. "Investments to support AI demand have been stronger than anticipated since our midyear forecast, leading us to boost the outlook for all segments." Semiconductor Equipment Sales by Segment After registering a record $104 billion in sales last year, the wafer fab equipment (WFE) segment, which includes wafer processing, mask/reticle, and fab facilities equipment, is projected to grow 11.0% to $115.7 billion in 2025. This represents an upward revision from the previously forecast $110.8 billion in the SEMI 2025 Mid-Year Equipment Forecast, reflecting stronger than expected investments in DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to support AI computing. Continued capacity build-out in China is also contributing meaningfully to WFE demand. Looking ahead, WFE segment sales are projected to expand 9.0% in 2026 and 7.3% in 2027, reaching $135.2 billion as device makers increase spending on advanced logic and memory technologies. The back-end equipment segment is anticipated to continue its strong recovery that began in 2024. Sales of semiconductor test equipment are projected to surge 48.1% to $11.2 billion in 2025, while assembly and packaging (A&P) equipment sales are projected to rise 19.6% to $6.4 billion. Back-end growth is expected to continue, with test equipment sales growing 12.0% in 2026 and 7.1% in 2027, and A&P sales are forecast to grow 9.2% in 2026 and 6.9% in 2027. This expansion is underpinned by the growing complexity of device architectures, accelerated adoption of advanced and heterogeneous packaging, and stringent performance requirements for AI and HBM semiconductors. These drivers are partly offset by ongoing softness in consumer, automotive and industrial demand, which continues to weigh on some mainstream test and packaging segments. Wafer Fab Equipment Sales by Application WFE sales for foundry and logic applications are expected to show robust 9.8% year-over-year growth to $66.6 billion in 2025, supported by resilient spending for advanced nodes. The segment is forecast to see 5.5% growth in 2026 and 6.9% increase to $75.2 billion in 2027 as chipmakers add capacity for AI accelerators, high-performance computing and premium mobile processors. Investments will increasingly target leading-edge technologies as the industry moves toward high-volume manufacturing at the 2nm gate-all-around (GAA) node. Memory-related capital expenditures are projected to see significant expansion through 2027 powered by increasing demand for HBM to support AI deployment and ongoing technology migration. The NAND equipment market is expected to see growth of 45.4% to $14.0 billion in 2025 and further increase 12.7% to $15.7 billion in 2026 and 7.3% to $16.9 billion in 2027, driven by advancements in 3D NAND stacking and capacity expansion at both leading and mainstream layers. DRAM equipment sales are projected to rise 15.4% to $22.5 billion in 2025, followed by 15.1% and 7.8% year-on-year growth in 2026 and 2027, respectively, as memory suppliers ramp HBM and upgrade to more advanced process nodes to meet AI and data center requirements. Semiconductor Equipment Sales by Region Mainland China, Taiwan and Korea are expected to remain the top three destinations for equipment spending through 2027. China is projected to maintain the leading position over the forecast period as domestic chipmakers continue to invest in both mature and select advanced nodes, even as growth moderates and sales gradually decline from 2026. In Taiwan, robust 2025 spending reflects large-scale leading-edge capacity builds for AI and high-performance computing, while Korea's equipment outlays are supported by substantial investments in advanced memory technologies, including HBM. All other regions tracked are expected to see equipment spending increase in 2026 and 2027, supported by government incentives, regionalization efforts and targeted specialty capacity expansions. The SEMI forecast is based on collective input from top equipment suppliers, the SEMI Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (WWSEMS) data collection program and the industry-recognized SEMI World Fab Forecast database. Around the world, defense organizations and armed forces are seeking new approaches to overcome slow manufacturing cycles, fragile supply chains, and increasing demand for complex metal components. Titomic's capabilities offer higher throughput, enhanced material performance, and the flexibility to produce parts that are difficult, time-consuming and/or costly to manufacture through traditional methods. "Securing this Early Manufacturing Development contract marks another important milestone for Titomic as we continue to expand our impact throughout the defense sector," said Dr. Patti Dare, President of Titomic, USA. "Our advanced manufacturing technology is designed to break through production bottlenecks and ensure critical assets and solutions reach the warfighter in a mission-relevant timeframe. We are proud to support this initiative and look forward to strengthening our partnership with this leading defense prime." This announcement has been authorized for release by Titomic's Board of Directors.

Google AI summaries are ruining the livelihoods of recipe writers: ‘It’s an extinction event’

AI Mode is mangling recipes by merging instructions from multiple creators – and causing them huge dips in ad traffic This past March, when Google began rolling out its AI Mode search capability, it began offering AI-generated recipes. The recipes were not all that intelligent. The AI had taken elements of similar recipes from multiple creators and Frankensteined them into something barely recognizable. In one memorable case , the Google AI failed to distinguish the satirical website the Onion from legitimate recipe sites and advised users to cook with non-toxic glue. Over the past few years, bloggers who have not secured their sites behind a paywall have seen their carefully developed and tested recipes show up, often without attribution and in a bastardized form, in ChatGPT replies. They have seen dumbed-down versions of their recipes in AI-assembled cookbooks available for digital downloads on Etsy or on AI-built websites that bear a superficial resemblance to an old-school human-written blog. Their photos and videos, meanwhile, are repurposed in Facebook posts and Pinterest pins that link back to this digital slop. Continue reading...
